Staying in God’s World

How many singers would you guess are Christians? From their sexual clothing to their raunchy lyrics, it’s hard to tell. Can you pick out the Christians among actors or actresses? Married people appear in movies and videos and get naked or make-out with others who are not their spouse. Then they wonder why their marriages fall apart.

As Christians we are to be set apart from the world. John 15:19 reads, If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.

Yet, we live in a world that goes against everything God tells us to do. There’s sexually explicit television shows, cursing in most shows, even cartoons have gotten into the act. However, with God’s help, you can persevere and live like he wants you to.

In the wedding scene at the end of his film Fireproof, Kirk Cameron had his real life wife step in and take the place of the actress bride. When he kissed the bride, it was his wife, not some actress. He’s smart enough to know that getting intimate with anyone who’s not your spouse can cause problems. The same goes with watching raunchy television shows or films, or worse, pornography. After all, how can watching a woman with fake breasts and a size zero body not affect the way you look at your wife?

Books can have the same affect. If all you read are romance novels, you’ll long for your husband to fit into that stereotype. It’s not going to happen. None of those characters are real. I know. I write them.

We need to realize no one is perfect, especially the people in Hollywood or books. That’s why these type of movies and books are called fiction.
