What’s in a Look?

I caught part of an Oprah Winfrey show the other day which featured supermodels of the past. The one thing that struck me as strange was they all said looks didn’t matter to them so much anymore. If that were true, they wouldn’t have had so much work done on themselves. I didn’t even recognize Christie Brinkley.

Advertisers will tell you that to get a man, you need to be young, beautiful, and thin as a rail. That might be true for some guys, but men prefer real women.

1 Samuel 16 says, But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” In God’s eyes, everyone is beautiful. And you don’t need to have a face lift, lip injections, or implants to have him love you. He sees your true beauty – it’s on the inside.

Women need to realize, the outer body is just a shell God gave you to keep your insides from falling out. Some are lumpy, some fluffy, and others thin. Our outer looks is what makes us all different. Who wants to live in a world where we all have perfect white teeth, are a size 0, with a size 38C chest? Only people in Hollywood.

God loves you for who you are, not what you look like. Our culture has gotten carried away with looks to the point where people are dying to be thin. It’s time we said enough is enough. We want real people in our movies, on our television, and in our magazine ads. It’s time for us to shout to God, “Show us what someone looks like through your eyes.”
