God’s Pets

Animals. Some become pets. Some food. Some we just enjoy watching. So why is it so many people harm these wonderful creatures? There are those who hunt rhinoceros and elephants for ivory. Those who kill baby seals for their coats. And those who abuse dogs and cats.

GretchenGretchen Sandy Bain, a beloved companion
for over 10 years. Still sorely missed.

And how does God feel about this? Psalm 50:10-11, it states, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. God cannot be happy with how some people treat His animals.

Case in point – the Nassau County humane society just took in 27 dogs from a “breeder” who kept the animals in cages. They were stacked one on top of the other for so long that their hair matted and the dogs on the bottom were covered with feces.

I know it’s not very Christian, but I think the person who did this should be made to live in a cage for one year with no outside attention, no grooming whatsoever, and to have fecal matter tossed on them daily.

We should care more for the animals in this world than we do. Enjoy their beauty and treat them with respect. If you hunt, that’s fine, just do so for food, not for sport. And don’t raise dogs just to have fighting machines. We should care not only because they belong to God, but it’s the right thing to do. Especially those God gave to us as companions.

I am a huge dog lover. They are always happy to see you. They never remain mad no matter how you treat them, and unlike teenagers, they’ll never roll their eyes at you when you say something they don’t like.

Dogs teach us about unconditional love, the same love God gives. With dogs, we are always forgiven the minute we walk in the door. God forgives us when we return also. He only gives us these pets for a little while before He calls them back home to Him. Enjoy and love them, and they will give you the same in return.

Post a picture of your pet(s) in the comment section below. I’d love to see them.

If you, or someone you know, is in need of prayer, please let me know below. I’ll be happy to pray for the situation.
