In the Light of God

Susan slowed as she came to Elm Street. The large trees hung together creating a tunnel. Her heart raced with each step forward. The further she walked, the darker it became. Her backpack grew heavy slowing her even further. Leaves rustled to the side. She paused in her tracks. Everything went silent except for her loud breaths. She turned and ran until she broke through to the other side. Relief came when she spotted the front porch light of her home.

Tunnel

A lot of us know the concern of walking down a dark path. The strange noises are always louder than in the light. It’s the same when we’re going through a hard time in our lives. Every annoyance bothers us one hundred times more. But when we come through, there is a relief because the hardship has been put behind us.

While we’re going through a dark period, we can only hope for the end. We don’t realize that without darkness, there can be no light, which means no relief when the concern is over.

Why is it some people can smile through a bad time? Because they focus on Jesus, their light in a storm. John 1:5 tells us that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. The more we focus on God, the less our fear and concern will be. There will be a sense of peace during any hardship until we break on through.

No matter how bad your world may seem, things will get better. But without darkness, we wouldn’t appreciate the light. Whenever we come through hardship, we are grateful for the normality of the world even more.

Focus on God to have light in your darkness. His light will ease your pain and fears. And at the very end of all the dark periods in your life, you will find there is no greater peace than the light on at God’s house.

If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to pray for the situation.

  1. I always enjoy your posts. Our friend (and retired author) Judy P needs prayers for her son who is battling cancer. God bless you, girl!

  2. Thanks, Cheryl. Dear Lord, I pray for Judy P and her son. Please put your healing hand over him. Give the doctor’s wisdom with the best remedies, and please Lord, hold on to his family. In Jesus name, Amen.
