Here’s the new book cover for Fade to the Edge, coming soon.
A New Friend
I’d like to introduce you to a new member of our family, Elektra, “Ele” for short. She joined us in our home on Saturday.
Elecktra “Ele”, age 2
Psalm 50:10-11, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. God gave us the animals to tend to, not to abuse or neglect. Unfortunately, some people treat animals like nothing more than the trash they take to the curb.
We met Ele at the Jacksonville Humane Society Free Adoption day. Unfortunately, she didn’t even know her name. This is the second dog I’ve owned that didn’t answer to its name. The first one was given up because she had heartworms. I took her in and she lived another ten years.
Because we wanted to boost Ele’s self-esteem, we gave her the name of a Marvel hero. She’s very shy because she’s never been around people. The shelter thought she might have been kept in a cage all day. At the age of two, she doesn’t even know how to play with toys.
It’s sad when people treat dogs that way. In most cases, these are backyard breeders who only care about money.
However, Ele’s doing very well here in our home. She’s found her spot in the middle of the den floor. She has a beautiful pink bed that looks very comfortable but is yet to be used. Instead, she slept beside my bed on the floor. Her first night with us was dog food with steak drippings. She ate every bite.
If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. – James Herriot, Veterinary Surgeon
God didn’t give us dogs just to make money. He gave them to us for companionship. I urge everyone to stop buying dogs from backyard breeders. Instead, get your dog from a shelter. They will forever be happy to see you when you arrive home.
Now it’s your turn. Show me your animals in the comment section below. I’d love to see them.
If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please leave a message in the comment section, so I can pray for the situation.
