Taking God Personally

Day 1

ORIGINAL:

John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

PERSONAL:

John 3:16, For God so loves me that He gave His one and only Son, that if I believe in him, I shall not perish but have eternal life.

SHORT DEVOTION:

This verse comes from John, one of Jesus’ disciples. Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus, who states he knows Jesus is from God.

his verse has probably become the best-known verse of the Bible. The person credited the most with bringing this verse to light is someone called “Rainbow Man,” who at the 1977 NBA finals was filmed on television wearing a rainbow wig and a white T-shirt painted with “John 3:16.” His real name was Rollin Stewart. Because of the attention he received, people would look up the verse.

John 3:16 is the summary of God’s Word in one small sentence. We have seen it on posters, signs, heard it in songs (Keith Urban), and seen it written under the eyes of football players (Tim Tebow).

It is the ultimate proof of God’s love.

God came down from Heaven and became a man in order to save our souls. He left the comfort of Heaven and sacrificed Himself on the cross so that we could have a relationship with Him. What a loving Father we have! No other god feels this way for His children.

This verse is one of hope and love, which we should keep with us as we go through life. Personalizing it just shows how powerful God’s promise is to us.

SAY OUT LOUD:

God loves me so much that He gave His son over to be hung on a cross just to save me from my own sins.
