There are few books in the Bible that are named for a woman. However, that doesn’t mean God doesn’t love his daughters. In fact, He loves us very much. And while there may not be a lot of books of the Bible named for women, there were women in the Bible who definitely had God guiding them.
This week let’s look at three women who knew God’s love and strength.
MARY MAGDELINE: After He rose from the dead, Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene. She went forth and told others that Jesus was alive. Mark 16:9 reads, When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. Why would Jesus appear to a woman first upon resurrection? He could have easily waited for a man to come by or appear to the guards watching over the tomb. Could it be because God knew Mary’s heart and knew she would not be afraid to announce that He was alive?
DEBORAH: In Judges 4-5, Deborah was guided by her ability as a prophetess, that is, someone who contemplates God. She went into battle to help the Israelites throw off an oppressive Canaanite ruler. God gave her the ability to win a war. He, again, could have chosen a man, but instead prepared a woman to save the Israelites. Deborah wasn’t the only female to save God’s people.
ESTHER garners an entire book of the Bible. She was an intelligent, resourceful, courageous woman. The king was looking for a new queen and had all the beautiful women brought before him. He chose Esther to take the throne. She showed her true heart for God by saving His people from death. God could easily have used a man to defeat the evil Haman. Instead He picked a woman.
Each of these instances not only shows God’s love for women, but the strength these women had in their faith. And we can have that same strength today. God is there with you always. And if He could use these women, He most certainly can use you.
