My daughter has a friend who told me he is no longer a Christian. He used to be very active in his church then he joined the Marines and ended up overseas in the war. Now he no longer believes.
It got me thinking, why do young people leave God? It seems there are three reasons. 1. Hypocritical Christians, 2. Something you feel God has done (death of a child) or that he allowed to happen (murder). 3. Something you’ve done that you feel God cannot forgive you for.
With regard to number 1, you need to read the Bible and remember there is a difference between Jesus and Christians. Like Joyce Meyer says, “Sitting in Church doesn’t make you a Christian, anymore than sitting in a garage makes you a car.” Also remember, all people sin, whether they’re Christian or not. The only perfect man to walk the earth was Jesus.
Reason number 2, God doesn’t interfere with the acts of man. We don’t know why things happen. They just do. We have to trust God that there is a reason.
About number 3, no matter what you’ve done, God will always love you, just as you will always love your child. You might not love the action, but you will still love the person.
1 John 1:9 reads, If we confess our sins, he is faith and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. It’s great to know all we have to do is ask and God forgives us for anything we’ve done.
Don’t turn away from God. Lay your guilt at His feet. Come back to Him. Not only would He love to have you back, but we imperfect Christians would love to see you back too.
