Five Second Rule

My minister was talking about the five second rule a couple Sundays ago. Yes, my church is that cool. What’s the five second rule? It’s when you drop food and if it hasn’t been on the floor for more than five seconds, it’s still safe to eat.

Well, it got me thinking. How many people have a five second rule with it comes to Jesus. “I’ll have plenty of time to get right with God before I die.”

That may not always be the case. Also, think of the last time you had something bad happen. Or even a close call. Maybe you had to slam on your brakes to avoid hitting the guy who just pulled into your lane. What was your first thought? I’ll bet it wasn’t God.

According to John 14:23, Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. You can’t count on having time to make it right with God before you die. Now is the time to start living for the Lord.

We never know when we’ll be taken from this Earth. Treating God like a piece of candy isn’t going to make things any better for you when you get to Heaven. And I’d hate for you to find out it’s only a five second ride to the other side.
