Yes, the New Year is upon us. It’s time for those pesky resolutions that we usually break by the end of January. There’s the losing weight, getting out of debt type of resolutions everyone makes. They work okay until that candy bar calls your name or that dress you just know you’ll look good in goes on sale. How about a different kind of resolution? One that takes just a few minutes every day and can be done any time. Make the resolution to pray every day.
God likes to hear from us. He wants to know your problems. I know, I know, He already knows what’s on your mind, but God likes for us to confide in Him. And the prayer doesn’t have to be fancy, just talk to God. If that doesn’t work for you, recite the Lord’s prayer. You don’t have to come up with your own. Jesus has given you a prayer you can say everyday. Matthew 6:9-13 reads: “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our sins, as we also have forgiven those who’ve sinned against us. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
I would like for you to add one other thing. Ask God to show you if you’ve done anything that will turn anyone against Him or be an embarrassment to Him. After all, the point of being a Christian is to bring people to Jesus, not turn them away.
Prayer is the fast way to get hold of God’s attention. You don’t get a busy signal and there’s never voice-mail. Give it a try. This is a resolution that you can keep all year long. At the end of 2012, I think you’ll find your prayers have made a world of difference.
