We have a tendency to want to fix things ourselves, whether it is a broken faucet or bad paint job. We know we’ll save money if we do it instead of hiring someone to fix it for us. However, fixing things in our life without God’s help can be quite costly.
How many times have we tried to come up with our own solution to fix our finances? Maybe we refinanced our house. You got those funny feelings inside that said to stop. Don’t sign those papers. But you did anyway. Not only did you lose the equity, but then you ran your debt back up. Only now you have higher mortgage payment which makes it even harder to pay your bills.
What about those funny feelings inside while you were dating that guy you met through a friend? Something inside said it just wasn’t right. Yet you ignored the warnings God was giving you and married him anyway. It probably didn’t turn into the dream marriage you were hoping for.
These things all cost us not just financially but emotionally as well. We have to relinquish control of our lives to God. Psalm 138:7-8 reads, Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. The Lord will vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever —do not abandon the works of your hands.
God will never abandon you once you give control to Him. He will be there every step of the way, including those times of hardship. We have to let go and give our lives completely over to Him. Everything from our finances to our romances.
The hardest part for us is to not only give up the control, but not take it back once we’ve given it to Him.
