Revenge vs. Prayer

terror-group-isis-apHow easy is it for you to hate? I’m sure most of us think of ourselves as not the “hating” kind. Okay, I’ll give you that one. But how easy is it for you to want revenge? Isn’t that also a form of hate?

Islamic state (ISIS) is the extreme Muslim terrorist group that beheaded a reporter this past week. First off, let me point out how little regard I have for a bunch of men are who have to wear masks when they do something. (Think of the KKK.) It only proves these people know what they’re doing is wrong, or they’d be more willing to show their faces.

That being said, when it came to the video of the beheading, a lot of people, as I was, were appalled. A lot of people, as I did, wanted this group wiped off the face of the earth. My first thought was, send in the Marines. That’ll show ‘em.

Yet how many of us prayed for the members of this group?

We’re quick to let our tempers take over. We want revenge over the death of a journalist most of us didn’t even know. Yet we aren’t willing to allow God to be in charge. Matthew 18:20 states, For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. Imagine what would happen if not two or three, but two or three hundred thousand got down on their knees and prayed for the end to this hatred.

Why is it we don’t pray about these extreme groups? Could it be because we think nothing will happen? Or the fact these people won’t care? I don’t think for a moment that these terrorists will change because Christians are praying for them. But what I do believe is that Jesus can change their hearts.

That’s the power of my God.

God says if we gather in His name He is with us. Why would He not answer the prayers of hundreds of thousands of believers to change the hearts of these men?

I challenge you today to not only pray for these terrorists’ hearts to be changed, but pray that the Christians and decent Muslims isis-child-gunband together to eradicate these terrorists from the Middle East. Pray for the safety of Christians that are being slaughtered by the hundreds. And especially pray for all the children who see these atrocities daily. Pray they don’t become immune to the callousness, and that they grow up to make a difference in a positive way.

I believe with all my heart, prayer might be the only way to change these terrorists back into human beings.

If you or someone you know are in need of prayer this week, please let us know. We’d be more than happy to pray for you.

And if this post moved you in some way, please feel free to share it.

  1. Thanks Kathryn. I’ve also been praying for God to change their hearts and save the Christians from their misguided evil acts. It’s sometimes hard to understand, but God LOVES every man, woman and child on earth, no matter what we do. Praying for these angry, selfish terrorist is the only thing we can do to stop them. But we can’t pray for their deaths, we must pray for their salvation.

    • I know it’s hard sometimes when we want to hurt others as bad as we hurt or as bad as they hurt others. But you are so right, we need to allow God to do His job. Thanks for commenting.

  2. There have been countless times in my life when I wanted to kick Satan’s #*#; but I know in my heart that it’s not up to me, that God already did it for me, for you for all his children by taking on the form of man an sacrificing himself for us. God took on the enemy; something we could not do and in this act, we have our revenge. The terrorist and serial killers, drunk drivers are going to exist in any community at any given time. We can not possibly know when; all we can do is pray for protection and pray for God to speak to the hearts of would be offenders; that they would have a change of heart.
I have found myself absolutely drained by holding on to regrets, anger, resentments, and feelings of shame; it (will) zap your energy and time.
We all miss the mark on forgiveness and the acceptance of God’s forgiving love because we are too busy listening to the negative messages in our heads. God is here amongst us and just waiting for us to invite him in and fill us with his loving kindness.
