When was the last time you just sat back and basked in the fact that you had enough stuff? A long time? Me, too. It seems no matter how much we have, some of us are never satisfied and only want more. We are a generation of those who love their stuff. The more the merrier. The larger the better.
We grumble until we get a larger house so we’ll have more room. Then we look around at all the open space and decide we need more furniture to fill that empty space. Maybe you need a larger television because the other looks so small over that nice big fireplace. Even worse, we go to a friend’s house, see what they have, and decide we want something similar.
It appears quite a few of us are never happy with what we have. Yet it’s God who has blessed us with our stuff. And how often do we not take care of what He has given us? Are you a renter? Did you know that renters are more prone to destroy the property their living in than someone who owns it? If you want God to give you your own home or something larger, you need to take care of what He’s put you in charge of already.
And we should be happy with what God has blessed us with instead of wanting more. Luke 12:15 states, And He said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” No matter how much you have, you can’t take it with you when you go. And it only accumulates dust in the end.
Every item God gives you is something you must take care of. And the more you have, the more you are charged with caring for. Too many people dream of the bigger house with the beautiful landscape, yetthey hate to mow their own yards much less trim the hedges and edge. They want the large five-bedroom house, yet barely vacuum the floors in the three-bedroom home they already own.
And don’t forget, the more you have, the more you risk losing if you are never content. Keep complaining about what God has already given you, and He might decide to take it for someone else.

We should be happy with all the blessings God has given us today and not look forward to what “could be” tomorrow. Too often the things we dream of owning never come to be. And by only dreaming, you can never really be happy.
So fill yourself with God’s joy and thank Him for all He has given you. Every item from the torn sock in the drawer to the drippy faucet in the bathroom are blessings. There are some who have no faucet, much less running water. Sometimes we all need a reality check.
The nicest thing we can say to God when we pray today is “Thanks for all you’ve given me. I have more than enough.”
If you or someone you know are in need of prayer this week, please leave a comment. We’d be more than happy to pray for you.
And if this post moved you in some way, please feel free to share it.
