Bullying has been around forever, but it seems to be getting nastier than ever before. Maybe it’s the television shows where all the girls are hostile to each other. Or it could be because it’s easier to be mean on-line. It could also have to do with the lack of parenting that has occurred in our society.
Below is an article about a group who had an election for the “ugliest” girl in their school.
I don’t know about you, but Lynelle Cantwell isn’t my definition of ugly. The people who come up with this type of hatred are the true ugly ones. Eventually their darkness will shine through for others to see. But Lynelle, who has a wonderful smile, and isn’t about to let these fools bother her, will be showing her beauty for years to come.
I can’t help but wonder who would come up with something so cruel? Do they hate themselves so much that they have to hurt others to feel better? Did it work? Maybe for a minute or two. But eventually they’ll go back to disliking themselves again.
The best way to feel good about yourself is to help others, not hurt them. Philippians 2:4 reads, Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. We have become a world of self-absorbed people who don’t know how to love others because we don’t know how to love ourselves.
And don’t think Christians are immune to this type of behavior. We can’t wait to point our fingers at others, so we can get the attention away from our own sins.
There’s a saying that “The Christian army is the only army that kills its own wounded.” Christians cannot wait for others to fall. They then attack even more once the person is down, instead of picking them up and helping them heal.

People who love themselves, don’t hurt other people. The more we hate ourselves, the more we want others to suffer. – Dan Pearce, author

I hear hatred from people who proclaim to be Christians all the time. They accuse my books of not being Christian because I write about murder and suspense. Some have accused certain Christian rock bands of being non-Christian because of the music they play. And there are those who accuse certain preachers of not being legitimate because they don’t have a pastoral degree. Last time I looked, Jesus didn’t have one either.
We don’t know what God has asked others are to do. Maybe He wants that rock musician to reach those who don’t believe. God might have a reason why you shouldn’t read edgy Christian or listen to rock music. We’re all different with different jobs for passing along God’s words.
The bottom line is we need to stop the hatred.
And if you see someone hurting or being hurt by this cyber-bullying, please stand up for them. I’ll almost guarantee you’ll have a lot more people on your side than the person passing around the hate.
If you or someone you know are in need of prayer this week, please leave a comment. We’d be more than happy to pray for you. And if this post moved you in some way, please feel free to share it.
