How often have you posted something on your social media site before checking the facts? Maybe you 
clicked it on your pages because it further your political or ideological agenda. When was the last time you shared something you knew, or should have known, was an out-and-out lie?
I see this all the time. And some are done by people who call themselves Christians. A couple use the word minister before their names.
It happened just his past week when Laura Ingraham’s “Nazi” salute at the Republican National Convention was passed all over the Internet. While I’d never heard of Ms. Ingraham before that night, it bothered me because she gave a very good speech, yet the focus turned to that ridiculous and untrue photo. And the same media she shamed for not doing their jobs ran away with it. Anyone who watched the video and the two seconds after would know that it was a wave, nothing more.
By passing this photo along, aren’t these people basically lying?
How do we, as Christians, justify trying to destroy someone all in the guise of a political agenda? Last time I looked lying was against God. Proverbs 12:22 states, The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy. It doesn’t appear to me you are very trustworthy if you’re spreading falsehoods about others.
I try to look up information before I post or pass it on. I can tell when others do not. Some of the stories are so ridiculous, I can’t believe anyone believes them. President Obama is bashed all the time in this respect. And when I call the posters out on their untrue posts, they just say, “Well I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true.”
Just because you want it to be so, doesn’t make it so. The same goes with Ms. Ingraham’s photograph.

I find it very disheartening when a Christian passes on a lie. Lying is always the first step to sinning. And if you constantly “lie,” then what else are you doing that I don’t know about? How can you be trusted? At all times, we must put forth the best Christian persona we can. By putting yourself out as a faithful Christian, then reposting a falsehood, you are in essence spreading a lie under His name.
We as Christians are to be above this world, not part of it. That means that we should stand above nonbelievers in everything we do, including our lives, our actions, and in our social media posts.

Guilty, although I try to check stories before I repost them. If it’s a funny or a video, I usually don’t check. Still pictures can be doctored or edited too easily now to get them to say whatever you want.

I know just how you feel. I was called “morally corrupt because I don’t support Trump.The guy doesn’t even know me. Who I choose to vote for is nobody’s business mine.
Ruth, it’s amazing how ugly people can be when they’re on the computer. They say things in private they’d never say to your face. Sorry to hear about your experience.
