Have you ever said something that actually came back to haunt you? We see this all the time among politicians when they claim they will not raise taxes, then in the long run, or in order to get their projects complete, they have no choice.
It’s not just in politics this occurs. We might know a lady at church we’re not too fond of. If she gets a new car, we get a jolt of euphoria upon seeing a ding in her driver’s side door. Then the next day we come out of the grocery store to find a scratch on ours.
Ugly words and thoughts have a habit of coming back to haunt us.
I can’t help but think that’s what’s happening to the Democratic Party these days. Some Democrats predicted chaos at the Republican convention and that the Independent party would rise up and choose a candidate that would take votes away from Donald Trump. Not only did they predict it, but they did so with a smile. Now the Democratic Party finds themselves faced with those situations instead.
We lash out and bite back with words only to have it hurt our circumstances more than the person or people we’re trying to hurt. As Christians, we should watch every word that comes out of our mouths. We should never wish harm to another. Instead, pray for their heart to change toward Jesus.
Matthew 12:36 says, I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak. I have a tendency to run off at the mouth and get carried away. But this verse has helped a lot with not going as far as I used to. I still have a long way to go, but I’m a work in progress, and God is dealing with me on this issue.

Politics has a habit of bringing out the negative in people, Christians as well as non-Christians. But, as Christians, we need to watch our words and not hope for terrible situations to occur to anyone, even those against us.
We are to forgive, have patience, and pray that God’s will be done. Even in that means the opposition wins.
The Republicans are now basking in the chaos of the Democratic Party which only saddens me. It just causes more discord in this country. And no one should want that, even if it means you end up on the losing end of an election.
If you or someone you know is in need of prayer this week, please leave a comment. We’d be more than happy to pray for you. And if this post moved you in some way, please feel free to share it.
