Showing the Kindness of God

How many of you have missed opportunities to pray with others? Maybe you’ve had a sick friend in the hospital and you were so focused on them, you didn’t pray with the other stranger sitting in the waiting room.

That happened to me the other day. As I waited to appear on a live television show, I was nervous. I’d never done TV before, so it was natural. I prayed and then tried to focus on the show. A couple was sitting across of me and my daughter while we waited. They were the community organizers for the Eastside Market. The man, Dana Miller, owner of The Mobile Grooming Experience, asked if I was nervous. I said a little bit. He got up, walked over, put his hand on my shoulder, and prayed for me. (His talk on The Chat is here: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/entertainment/television/programs/the-chat/the-chat-friday-february-10-eastside-market/406843809)

I was shocked by Mr. Miller’s kindness.

We are reminded as Christians through 1 Corinthians 13:11-13 that When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.  For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Though Christians talk about kindness, it’s not that common to see out in public. We’ll hear about it when they’re talking about their testimony or in the backroom of some charity, but to have such a visual display without any concern for who might be watching was wonderful.

Mr. Miller could have sat there focused on his own business and what he’d planned to say when he was on the show, however, he turned his attention to others.

I am grateful for Mr. Miller’s kindness. I know his prayer calmed my nerves. And it helped just knowing someone else cared about my feelings. In this day of me-me-me, it was nice to see someone not just say they care about others, but to show it.

Mr. Miller is trying to raise money to complete fixtures to his mobile grooming bus through a Go Fund Me page. If you’re interested in helping this gentleman, the site is https://www.gofundme.com/h7ayxgpy.

I think it’s important to support Christian businesses. And this man showed the true nature of Christianity when he showed kindness to me, a complete stranger.

If you or someone you know is in need of prayer this week, please leave a comment. We’d be more than happy to pray for you. And if this post moved you in some way, please feel free to share it.
