Lighting the Darkness

Have you ever been afraid of the dark? Maybe as a child, you used a nightlight for comfort. Some people do so as adults. The best way to get rid of darkness is with light.

CandleDid you know there are over 10,000 different
scents of candles in the world?

Matthew 5:16 tells us that in the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. We live in a world of darkness. There are people out there who feel unloved and unwanted. Those who believe they are not worth anything in this world. Yet, God loves all His children. And those who believe in Him should be the light to lost people.

But how do you shine your light when your own world is toppling over? Here are three ways you can show your light to others:

  1. Do things without grumbling or complaining. That’s not easy when life has handed you a bag of lemons, but if you read the Bible, it will give you strength to persevere.
  2. No matter how tough things might be going for you, try to smile and be kind to strangers you come in contact with. While you might be suffering, they might be also. Imagine how much better they would feel having someone else be kind to them. And in turn, you will feel better also.
  3. Praise God. This is probably the hardest of all because when we feel let down, sometimes we think God is to blame or that He doesn’t care anymore. You need to focus on His word and realize He is always with you, during the good and the bad. So praise Him and thank Him for what you do have, whether it is the food on your table, healthy children, or a home over your head.

with the East Coast, Michigan actually has the most,
with over 150 lighthouses or light towers.

Too many of us have a tendency to live in darkness, whether we believe in Jesus or not. We complain about our jobs instead of getting out and finding a new one. We don’t like being in debt, yet continually use our credit cards.

The only way to stop feeling miserable is to make changes. Instead of allowing the darkness of the world to control us, we need to use God’s light to chase away any strife. Hold tight to the Lord, and He’ll brighten your world.

So how do you drive away the darkness? Please share in the comments below. Also if you’ve had any challenges this week, post them below and allow us to pray for you.
