Because it’s Holy Week, I wanted to keep this short.
I got together with a couple of my single friends on Friday and we went to dinner and a movie. We saw I Can Only Imagine. This is the story of why Bart Millard wrote the song. All I could think when the movie was over was “Finally, someone got it right.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen other Christian films that were good – War Room being one of them. But this movie was a step even above it. The acting was exceptional, especially Dennis Quaid. If this weren’t a Christian film, he’d probably be nominated for an Academy Award. And J. Michael Finley gave such a real portrayal of Bart that it blew me away.
This movie deals with several issues that most Christian movies and books are afraid to deal with – abuse, alcoholism, and abandonment. And the redemptive and forgiveness in this movie weren’t sappy like in some.
Psalm 101:3 tells us to not set before our eyes anything that is worthless. Unfortunately, most movies out there today are just that – worthless. I’m glad to see a movie maker do a movie that comes across as real instead of forced. I’m hoping for a lot more in the future.
Here’s the trailer, and if you haven’t seen the movie, go. If you have, go again. The more we push for this movie to stay in the top five, the more likely we are to get good Christian movies in the future.
If you or someone you know are in need of prayer, please let me know, and I’ll pray for you.
Can’t wait to go see the movie! Heard great reviews from everyone
You’ll really enjoy it, Diana.
