Hanging with Friends

Years ago there was a great Beatles’ song out titled, “With a Little Help From My Friends.” As an author, we hear all the time that you should join writer’s groups so you don’t feel so lonely. It’s great to have support. We aren’t the only ones who need encouragement, Christian need it too. Back in Biblical times, Joshua had others when he walked around Jericho, David had his Army, and Jesus even had His disciples.

has been covered by such people as Joe Cocker and Bon Jovi.

1 John 1:7 tells us if we “walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” The more we walk with other Christians, the better we get to know Jesus.

It’s important to have the support of other Christians in this day and age. The world throws as much as it can at followers to try to turn us away from Jesus. We need the strength of other believers to hold tight to His hand.

Christian fellowship helps us persevere, care, and share our hard times, our joy, and our love of Jesus. Being with fellow believers helps strengthen our conviction. Being among other Christians helps us to build a bond that protects us from Satan when we need it most.

Satan always hates Christian fellowship; it is his policy to keep Christians apart. Anything which can divide saints from one another he delights in. He attaches far more importance to godly intercourse than we do. Since union is strength, he does his best to promote separation. – Charles Spurgeon, Preacher

Christians become a family when they hang together. They grow close and discover when others are going through hard times or are being tempted by the world. The best way to fight off the evil one is through prayer, with your Bible, and through the friendship of other Christians. So spend time with other followers, whether it be in Bible study, church, or just out having fun. Getting together is a great way to toss off the world that is trying to drag you down.

I belong to a weekly Bible study. Some of us sit together in church on Sunday and every month or so the singles in the group get together. We bond over our love of God, food, and fun. The Beatles had it right; we all need the strength of friends to help us get by. So, if you don’t belong to a group at your church, find one. The fellowship you’ll discover will give you peace and friendships like you’ve never known before.

If you or someone you know are in need of prayer, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to pray for the situation.

  1. I always need prayer which is another great reason to belong to a group. Sometimes they know you so well that you don’t even have to tell them you need prayer or what to pray for. And it’s always reciprocated.
