In the Eye of the Storm

Hurricane Florence hit land with a vengeance. A lot of people left, but others stayed. I know some will think it’s stupid, but my daughter and I stayed for Irma, so I’m not one to talk. One thing I remember is that it’s hard to return to find their home flooded or destroyed. I’ve been lucky with both Irma and Matthew. All I ever lost was electricity.

Unfortunately, other neighbors didn’t fare so well.

No matter the storm, whether from nature or an emotional heartbreak, we need to keep focused on Jesus. Matthew 14:22-33 tells us the story of Jesus walking on water, and Peter stepping out of the boat to greet him. Yet, when Peter took his focus off Jesus, he began to sink. But when he noticed the strong wind,* he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’  If we keep our eyes on Jesus, He can keep us from sinking in our own storms. He will save us the same way he did Peter.

We all can learn from these young children who were in the line of Hurricane Florence. Focus on Jesus, and you won’t be so scared. This song is one we should all keep in our hearts always, but especially during a trying time.

Too often we take our eyes off Jesus and then wonder why we sink in the mire of our despair. He is the only thing that can get us through the hard times. As long as we stay focused, we will survive.

If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please let me know. I’ll be happy to pray for the circumstance.
