If you had to describe your relationship with Jesus, what one or two words would you use? I wouldn’t say I was close to Jesus, though He’d like me to be. However, I do feel His presence sometimes. I would probably say I’m blessed at times, other times not so much. This is a hard one. James 4:8 tells us that if we Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
That’s probably my biggest issue with this question. I expect Him to be there whenever I call, yet I don’t listen well when He’s calling me. Too many other things pop into my head—chores around the house, jobs unfinished at work, ill friends, story ideas, etc. It makes it hard to focus on Him versus the voices in my own mind.
We all need to strengthen our relationship with God. At times, everyone, no matter how good a Christian, at times, feels their relationship with God become distant. That’s why spending time with him, alone, without interruption is so important.
But in this busy world that can be hard. So how exactly do we put things aside and get focused on God for even five minutes? The first way is to get alone. I know this isn’t easy, especially if you have children, but it’s a must. The second is to turn off your electronics. No TV, cell phone, or Facebook. And finally, focus. Focus only on Him. Every time another thought comes in, force it out. This takes time and practice but before long you’ll be able to tell the difference between God’s voice and your own.

Some people can be so disoriented to God that when he begins to work around them, they actually become annoyed at the interruption! – Harry T. Blackaby, author

God wants a close relationship with you, but in order for that to occur, you have to listen to Him. This isn’t a one-way relationship where you do all the talking. And wouldn’t one-on-one time with the creator of the universe give you peace of mind?
So what’s your answer to my question? If you had to describe your relationship with Jesus, what one word would you use? I would say confusing. How could a God so loving want to get to know someone as selfish as me? However, I’m also lucky to have such a loving God who wants to have a relationship with me. What about you? What one or two words would you use to describe your relationship with God? Post your answers below.
If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please let me know. I’d be more than happy to pray for the situation.
Love…this has so been in my heart lately. Not only do I continually crave time in His word and seek Him often, but I desire to point others in His direction. I’m greatful to be in a place in life where I have this opportunity.
I noted that you quoted Henry Blackaby. A group of us are currently going through Experiencing God. Excellent study.
I’m so glad this touched you and that you’re enjoying his study.
Undeserving
