A Little Bit At a Time

Have you ever noticed how God slips things in to get us to think? We might read the same Bible verse over and over. Then one day, we go “Wow! Where did that part come from? I never noticed it before.”

Wow moment

That happened to me during our Ladies of the Lord Bible study on Tuesday night. We were reading Ephesians 4:29, which says, Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. I’d never really paid much attention to the “that it may benefit those who listen” part before. I always took it to be the person you’re talking to. But what if God means for not only those you are speaking with but those around who might overhear?

God doesn’t give us all the information at once. He sends it out a little at a time. He knows if He gave it to us at once, we’d be too overwhelmed. That’s what’s so great about Him and His word. Each time you read the Bible, you learn something new.

Looking back over the years, I realize the Bible isn’t magic, but it is corrective; it isn’t an answer book, it is a living book; it isn’t a fix-it book, it is relationship book. When I confront God’s word, I am confronted; when I read God’s word, it reads me; when I seek God’s presence, He seeks me.- Mike Yaconelli, Theologian

The more we read the Bible, the more we’ll learn about God and what he wants for our life. The first time we go through, we get the feeling of God’s love. By the twentieth time, we pick up little hints of what we’re doing wrong in our own lives.

God helps us grow a little at a time. The same way a parent teaches a small child. We don’t get overwhelmed by His word. We get bits and pieces that help us grow to be the best Christians we can be. That’s the wonder of The Bible.

So, how about you? Have you ever come across a Bible verse you’ve read several times and had that “Wow!” moment? Please let us know which one in the comment section below.

Also, if you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please let me know. I’ll be happy to pray for the situation.

  1. Yes! Happens ALL the time! I read something and one thing sticks out and the next time I read it something else does. It’s amaxing!
