TV And Faith

I’m not a big fan of many current television shows. In fact, I’ve been enjoying old reruns of things like Numbers and The Closer. The only two current shows I make of point of catching are The Big Bang Theory and Last Man Standing.

Most shows have gotten too political and immoral for me to care to watch. I know any woman in a cop show will probably end up sleeping with one or more of the other guys. After all, what strong woman can be single and enjoy life?

And then there’s the anti-Christian aspect of most shows. That’s why Last Man Standing (LMS) blew me away the other night. LMS didn’t just talk religion; they actually had a character who taught on the story of Noah in the episode titled “The Passion of Paul.” And did a wonderful job of it. You can actually catch the episode here: https://www.fox.com/watch/3f54eb6c10d4c3332d6840bede14fbf1/

In 1 Corinthians 15:33, we learn that Bad company ruins good morals. That goes along with bad television shows and movies as well. We, as Christians, should walk out or turn the station when any show is heading into the anti-Christian realm. If we did so, maybe Hollywood wouldn’t have so much bravado when it comes to spouting their views.

Too often Christians are vilified in television shows, or the Christians don’t behave very Christiany. We, as believers, shouldn’t fill our minds, and especially our children’s minds, with such blather. We are filling our children’s heads with things like “after three dates you are to have sex” and “living together shows as much a commitment as marriage.” Both of which are nonsense.

It was nice to see Tim Allen get it right the other night. We should tune in to shows that are better for our faith than those that criticize it. The more quality shows we, as Christians watch, the more likely we are to get good shows in the future.

What television shows do you enjoy that aren’t afraid to show the Christian faith in a positive way? Share them in the comment section so we can check them out, and hopefully, give a push to good ones instead of the anti-Jesus shows that are out there.

If you or someone you know is in need of prayer please let me know in the comment section below, and I’ll be happy to pray for the situation.

Thank you. I agree with you 100 percent! I am enjoying the show called , “God Friended Me” a young man who wrestles with his belief yet serves the Lord with his loving kindness, though he does not see it that way. Each episode has great moral value in every show.

  2. Genora, I’ve been intrigued by the concept of the show, but have never seen it.
