We just had the Ms. USA and Ms. Teen pageants. I don’t watch them myself, but others seem to enjoy them. I always found it amazing how beautiful these women were, some through a doctor’s work and a lot of makeup. But these women are also very smart. Something they don’t really show in these competitions. They make it more about looks.
It would be great if instead of just looking on the outside, we could find some way to see what they were truly like on the inside. Would they be as nice as they come off, all smiles and hugs, or would they be backbiters?
And what about Christians? Imagine if a sign went off every day as to what type of Christian you were? What would your sign say? Depending on the situation, my sign would not be very flattering toward me.
Psalm 34:5 tells us that Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. I know it’s hard to always look to God in the middle of our circumstances, but the more we keep focused on him, the more we shine. Too bad traffic jams get in my way. That’s when my impatient driver sign would glow.
A beautiful woman delights the eye; a wise woman, the understanding; a pure one, the soul. Minna Antrim, writer
The more time you spend with someone, the more you get to know the real them. I’m sometimes shocked by those who appear very kind at first, only to discover they are prideful and only care about themselves. But it takes time to see that. People seldom reveal their true selves on the day you meet.
That’s probably how it is with some of these beauty contestants. They look wonderful on the outside while their insides are dark. No amount of plastic surgery can help that.
Shine in God’s word. Seek to be more like Him. Let your inside be as beautiful as your outside.
So what would your sign say if it told what type of Christian you were? Do you glow as much inside as the outside or are you like me and allow darkness to take over at times? Leave us a comment in the section below.
If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to pray for the situation.
