The Perfect Setup

I was reading an article the other day about how brides are ruining their honeymoon because they choose a vacation spot with wonderful beaches instead of the log cabin they’d rather rent. They spend half their days posing and shooting pictures instead of enjoying themselves. Why? Because they want to prove on Instagram they had a good time. So instead of having fun, they spend hours setting up their shots to make them the best. Needless to say, their husbands aren’t exactly enjoying their time together.

Don’t think men are immune. They risk their lives just to get the best picture.

We’ve become so busy trying to get validation through our social media accounts, we’ve lost sight of what’s really important. Things like connecting face to face with others, exploring the world around you, and enjoying the time you’re spending with others. Instead, we pose, take stupid risks, and ignore those around just to get the most clicks on our site.

Being motivated by what’s on social media will leave you empty. You should be motivated to do for others and to please God. Romans 12:1 tells us So then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer. The more you please God, the happier you will be.

Cell phones can be very distracting. We need to focus more on each other than a bunch of strangers through a phone. When you’re with someone, put that cell phone away. Imagine how much more special they will feel if you do.

Too many of us have allowed social media to dictate our moods, to the point we would rather please our followers than the person in the same room with us. We need to realize that we are comparing our lives to someone else’s highlight reel. No one’s life is perfect.

So don’t worry about the best pose or shot. Instead, put away that phone and go out and enjoy your life.

If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please let me know in the comments below. I’ll be happy to pray about the situation.
