Hatred at its Best

The other day Ellen DeGeneres was caught sitting next to George Bush at a football game. The world of social media went crazy. How dare she sit next to a conservative when she’s a liberal. Did people believe his conservative nature would rub off on her?

Then Ellen gave a response stating she’s been friends with George and Laura Bush for years and can be friends with others who do not believe the same way she does. Again the world of social media went crazy.

Why such a backlash?

We are a country separated by politics, television news, and religion. For some reason, we seem to feel if others don’t believe the same way we do on any issue, then they are our enemy.

Unfortunately, some Christians behave the same way. If you don’t belong to a certain church or hold a certain belief, you’re wrong and should be treated as stupid or unworthy of God’s love. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:10-13 …that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? The church should be united as one in the name of Jesus Christ, not divided over Lutheran, Episcopalian, Democrat or Republican.

I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different, and I think we’ve forgotten that that’s OK, that we’re all different. – Ellen DeGeneres

People are hating others at a terrible rate in this country, usually over something as silly as politics. Do you really think if you scream and yell at another, you’ll change their views? And Christians, where does it say in the Bible that if you do not believe in a certain religion, you’ll perish?

Isn’t it time people stopped separating themselves based on political affiliation or religion. We need to stand together for the good of all people. The further we divide ourselves, the less likely this country will thrive. There is only one solution for all this hatred and that’s love. And until we realize we can love others no matter their beliefs, there will never be any peace in our lives.
