Michael Che, a comedian on Saturday Night Life (SNL) was accused of ageism because of his remarks about a sixty-seven-year-old woman giving birth. I read his jokes, even those NBC refused to allow him to air, and I fell on the floor laughing. So if a fifty-eight-year-old woman is not insulted, why should twenty-somethings be?
It’s because of what I call Intolerant Activism. This is activism that is disguised as tolerance, but it really isn’t.
When we think of Intolerant Activism, most think of Christians and homosexuality/transgender issues. Christians are not allowed to believe in a God who doesn’t make mistakes or they are seen as intolerant. Yet, the Bible itself tells us that God is perfect in Psalm 18:30, This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
In the past, these Intolerant Activists have tried to shut down Christian businesses for discrimination, yet do not go after Muslim companies, even though both religions have the same attitude toward homosexuality. Why is that? Could it be because going after Muslims might make them appear intolerant?
Christians are fair game, and so now are comedians. I can’t help but wonder who is next?

The man who is most aggressive in teaching tolerance is the most intolerant of all: he wants a world full of people too timid and ashamed to really disagree with anything. – Criss Jami, American poet

I recall the original cast of SNL, John Belushi, the wonderful Gilda Radner, Jane Curtain, Dan Ackroyd, etc. Trust me when I say that most of what they joked about was not politically correct. They never seemed afraid of causing friction. The only thing SNL is allowed to make fun of without backlash these days is President Trump and the republicans. That makes for a very stale television show. If SNL had begun today, it would not be running decades from now.
It’s time we stand up against these Intolerant Activists. Point out that they might be more the problem than some comedian joking about a woman who had a child while in her sixties.
By the way, a lot of these Intolerant Activists live in Hollywood. And now, people are turning on them. We need to remember that when we point fingers, we have three more pointing back at us. So be careful who you accuse of wrongdoing because eventually others might just see the hypocrisy in your own life.
