Pa Rum Pum Pum-Pum

I have a feeling the title of this week’s blog gave away the song we’ll be discussing. You’re right if you thought The Little Drummer Boy. I became a fan of this song after seeing the television special as a young girl.

Drummer boy

This song was written in 1941 by Katherine K. Davis, a composer interested in producing material for amateur choirs.  It became famous in 1958 when the song was recorded by the Harry Simeone Chorale.

The Little Drummer Boy has been recorded more than 200 times and has gone on to land at the top of the music charts. Even actress Marlene Dietrich recorded a German version in 1964. But the most popular version was in 1977 when David Bowie and Bing Crosby combined The Little Drummer Boy with a new song Peace on Earth. Their tune hit No. 3 in the United Kingdom Official Singles Chart.

I hope you enjoy this new version which has now become one of my favorites.
