When the Mind and Body Need a Break

Word Relax on beach

I always take a break on Sunday afternoons. I sit at home and basically veg watching television. But that doesn’t necessarily shut my mind down. So sometimes I just need a break to have fun. And that’s where my granddaughter comes in. At six, she knows the meaning of fun.

We go to the theater, movies, or just sit around and play games. Not only do I get to have fun, but it helps my mind relax as well.

God also had a day of rest. Genesis 2:2, By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Not that God needed to rest. In fact, He didn’t. But once He had finished His work, He rested as a way to show that we should work hard six days a week, then take one day off to rejuvenate.

Rest is a blessing. It helps us get re-energized so we can get back to the six days of work.

It’s very important that we re-learn the art of resting and relaxing. Not only does it help prevent the onset of many illnesses that develop through chronic tension and worrying; it allows us to clear our minds, focus, and find creative solutions to problems. – Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Monk

As you have probably noticed, the last few blogs have been shorter than usual. That’s because my mind needs a break. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with these blogs since I’ve been doing one a week since 2011.

I’ve decided to take a bit of a break this year, so you’ll see some regular length blogs, you’ll see more guests, and some videos. I’m hoping it helps me rejuvenate my mind, especially since I’m doing a devotional this year which is taking a lot of my brain cells. I’m hoping by cutting back a bit, I will be restored to continue.

So, like God instructed, I shall rest. And so should you. It not only helps the body, but your little gray cells as well.

If you, or anyone you know is in need of prayer, please leave a comment below, and I’ll be happy to pray for the situation.
